I try saving in edit town mode, and live mode, save as, but it just gets stuck at the saving screen. The Game doesn't completely freeze, it just acts like it's still saving (The diamond keeps spinning, like something is happening) and I alt control delete its still reponding. I have been playing Sims 3 without mods since vanilla was issued. More hours than I care to recall and with all but two of the expansion packs. Even your corrupt games - which are extremely rare are recoverable if you know how. Go to Carl's Sim 3 forum for this information (I wrote a guide to recovering corrupt files on there several years ago).
